Does Celebrity have single staterooms?
Yes. Edge Series ships — Celebrity Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent and Xcel — carry dedicated Edge Single Staterooms with Infinite Verandas, designed for one guest with no single supplement. They are limited in number and sell out early. Older ships do not have them, so solo travellers there pay a supplement on a double stateroom.
How does the single supplement work?
A cruise fare is quoted per person assuming two people share the stateroom. A solo traveller occupying that room pays a supplement — often close to the second person’s fare — because the line is selling one room either way. The important nuance is that you pay only one set of taxes and fees, which is why the solo total on a well-priced group rate is often lower than public single pricing.
Is a cruise a good holiday for a solo traveller?
It is one of the better ones. You have your own lockable space, meals and transport are handled, there is no navigating unfamiliar cities alone at night, and Celebrity ships have enough bar and lounge space that company is easy to find without being compulsory. The main cost is the supplement, and that is what planning can reduce.
